FOODJECTS

WASHINGTON, DC

JUNE 2009: The Spain-USA Foundation and Apartment Zero, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain, presented the worldwide premier of Foodjects: Design and the New Cuisine in Spain, a careful selection of more than 100 objects that covered the relationship between chefs, designers and manufacturers in Spain. Held at Apartment Zero’s showroom, the exhibit was organized by curator Martín Azúa under a variety of headings, such as “Science and Art,” “Tradition and Cross-Breeding,” etc. Pieces included the cutlery of Javier Mariscal, the glassware of Oscar Tusquets, Patricia Urquiola’s coffee service for Rosenthal, Jaime Hayón’s decorative pieces for Lladró, a ham stand by Alejandro Mingarro, and objects designed by Ferran Adrià. The exhibit then travelled to North and South America, before splitting into two exhibits which continue to travel around the world today.
